Local 11 News Submission for January 2010

Well here it is March already.  I am sure you got those bikes all serviced up and ready for a new riding season. If not, you are slacking.  The winter months are best for getting them ready for many more miles. Don't wait until the last minute and expect to have it the next day.  Doing that will only prove to be disappointing.  While you are waiting for your bike to be serviced, there will be many miles you are missing that others are taking advantage of.

We have a confirmed date and location for our Rally this summer.  The date (mark your calendars) July 30th, 31st and Aug 1st.  The Location: Same place we had it last year.  Outside of Carthage and Carterville.  Watch for upcoming flyers.

The name of our rally will be FORR L11's SWMO Rally.  I hope we see more locals turn out at this rally.  The plans are already in the works..

Our new officers seem to be doing a great job so far.  Pass on a special thanks to all of them.  If you don't know who the officers are, I suggest you find out.

Our member of the month is Rocky Artym.  He is one who does a lot for the local and expects no gratitude in return. Thanks Rocky for everything you do.

Larry cannot make it to the meeting because of his new job, therefore, he has asked for an assistant treasurer, one who can read his reports at the meetings.  Kaime will be taking on that position until further notice.

Well be safe out there, ride it like you stole it, and keep the rubber between you and the pavement.

Until next time...

Quick update…Jan’s visit to the Capitol was actually pretty productive.  Met with the Rep’s that are sponsoring the bills we/I’ve been watching and all were very receptive.  Not much action out of them right now, but been watching the House & Senate’s calendar, make sure they don’t sneak anything else on or out of their calendar.

I know I have been sending out multiple e-mails about one political fund-raiser after another and want to explain the significance of these events.  As we have all heard, this is election year—aka, clean up year.  These fund-raisers the Parties hold (Republican & Democrats, alike) might seem boring, and just the phrase “fund-raiser”, can be a turn-off.  BUT as this IS election year, the candidates that will be running for the Federal positions (our D.C. peeps) will be coming home!  In essence, you do not have to travel to Washington, D.C. to meet the candidates that want to represent you…they will be coming to you!  That is why I have been sharing the info about these events with you.  I will not bother you with this anymore; I will, however, leave you with 2 websites…one for each Party…and you can keep up with what Campaign is going on, where and when you can go, etc.  I will be going to the 2 “big ones” (aka, the state-wide), but this is no way to belittle the Local/County events; if permitting, I will be attending as many as possible, but as it stands, I am committed to the 2 major events.  (FYI: L18 will have a hospitality room for Jackson Day 2010…April 16th-17th @ The Clarion Hotel)

The websites are as follow:

Republican Party: mogop.org                        Democratic Party:  missouridems.org

Hello!

Just received this information (thanks, Sam); thought I’d bring it to your attention.  This is in addition to the 2010 Missouri Lincoln Days happening in St. Charles Feb 26th-28th

The Johnson County Lincoln Days banquet will be:

Tuesday, February 23, 5:30pm, at the Johnson County Fairgrounds

Advance tickets are $25, $30 at the door.

Mail check for Advance Tickets:

Payable to: Johnson County Republican Central Committee

to: Mark Reynolds

22 SE 501 Road

Warrensburg, MO 64093

(Don’t forget Demo Days in Hannibal Mar 5th-7th!!)

Miss Cindy from L42 (Franklin Co.) sent me updates as to what’s going on with the Senate and House races in her neck of the woods; as always, thank you for sharing the knowledge, young lady…

Looks like Rep. Brian Nieves (R-98) and a Jack Jackson (former House Rep.) will be running for Senator John Griesheimer’s seat (District 26).  Cindy said Nieves will be their man and should be FORR’s.  Dave Hinson, Mary Jo Straatmann, and Paul Arand will be running for Nieves’ HR seat; L42’s favorite for House Rep was Hinson.  Both Nieves and Hinson were at L42’s meeting.

Started our Capitol Crusader Days this week; already have attendants in the rotunda notice our presence and had a Rep hunt me down in the hall Wed to talk of an issue we had discussed on Tues, amongst other exciting recognition…I’ll share with you when it’s official (ha-ha) Too bad no one was there on Wed to see this (I’m whining here…).  Already working on amending a bill or two for the positive; thought it was a very encouraging start to the session. (Please see the newsletter for lists of Bills we will be watching over)

Other than that, I encourage you to watch the news (but be careful on bogus info), listen to the radio (again, be careful and don’t be gullible), and keep yourself informed.  My gratitude to you for taking the time in reading these updates.  It is these open “conversations” (e-mails, whatever; but please feel free to call me to discuss issues concerning you, ask questions, or just to conversate…) that keep us all informed with correct information cuz that is what empowers us.

Respectfully yours,

Robert Dale Chrisenbery "Saginaw Bob," age 64, of Saginaw, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at Freeman Hospital following a sudden illness. Robert was born on Aug. 10, 1945, in Loma Linda, Calif., the son of the late Paul and Ina Chrisenbery. He married Irene Harper on Dec. 12, 1964, in South Hutchison, Kan. Together they owned and operated Saginaw Valley Leather. He enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle. He loved watching his granddaughter, Kayla's basketball games and spending time with his granddaughter, Aubrey. Bob was a very kind and generous man who never met a stranger and was always willing to help someone in need. He was a wonderful, loving husband and father who cherished his children. He is survived by his wife, Irene Chrisenbery, Saginaw; one son, Mike Chrisenbery and wife, Wendy, Saginaw; one daughter, Teresa Thaman and husband, David, Joplin; two brothers, Jack Chrisenbery and wife, Nancy, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Jerry Chrisenbery and wife, Doris, Olathe, Kan.; and three grandchildren, Kayla Thaman, Aubrey Chrisenbery and Joseph Hembree. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Chapel. Pastor Ed Breene will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Kayla Thaman Scholarship fund in care of the mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Chapel. Online condolences may be made at masonwoodard.com

Just a reminder to the “big” fund-raisers going on in the near future:

Feb 26-28 Missouri Lincoln Days (Republican Party) to be held at the St. Charles Convention Center.  Special rates are offered at The Embassy Suites Hotel (connected to the Convention Center); I believe they are $136.10 with the tax figured in there.  You can go to www.lincolndays.com for more info, but I will be sending out more info on this event as soon as we have more details to give.

March 5-7 Demo Days (Democratic Party) to be held in Hannibal.  I am going to assume the Convention will be held at The Quality Inn, but don’t hold me to that.  I am very fortunate to have received an e-mail from a gentleman out of Local 13 stating they had this whole event, finances included, under control and all I had to do was to show up!  Out of respect, I do not want to include his phone number, BUT will send info as soon as I know some more.  Right now, I know that The Quality Inn is booked up (no more rooms available) for these dates; I have booked a room at The Econo Lodge for about $135 for both nights.

PLEASE try to attend either (or both!!) event; the most important “supply” I can bring to these events are my fellow members!  Call me with any questions/concerns/ideas/volunteer time!

Local 11 News Submission for January 2010

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 2010

Greetings from Local 11,

I hope everyone had a great and safe holiday season.  Now its time to get a kick off on the New Year and to make 2010 the best year this organization has ever had.

But first some announcements.  The first announcement is to offer congrats to Doug and Samantha Laney on their Wedding day, November 20th. We wish you the best married life can offer.  Next I would like to announce the winner of this month's member of the month award, Shawn Riley (AKA Doc).  Congrats goes to him and Emmitt who was a close second.  Both of these members have done an outstanding job.

Now for the election results:  First up is the Chairman of the local: Mark Capps (yes that’s me), Vice-chairman: David Wells, Treasurer: Larry Hale, Secretary: Kaime Johnson (Nemo), Membership: Kathy Stines, Legislative: Don Maki, CC Rep: Ron Hurlbut, Safety: Tim Bridges, Product Line: Janese Johnson (JJ), Newsletter: Mark Capps, Sgt at Arms: Cliff Conway, Deputy Sgt at Arms: Doug Laney, Events: Charolette Conway and Historian: Brandy Vogt.

In other notes, Local 11 is looking forward to attending L18 and L30's Leather and Lace.  We’re still waiting on those flyers Jim.

Its time once again to start thinking about our rally, we want it bigger this year. So those plans will be in the works very soon.

I want to send out a special thanks to L27, who we have become close friends with.  We had a great time playing with you guys last year.  I know this year will be better.  Thanks to all the other locals who came down and showed support. I feel the brotherhood part of this organization is growing stronger.  We have met some great people and we look forward to meeting more. Warmer weather will be upon us, so its time to service those bikes, change a tire or two, and maybe wax it and polish the chrome.  Local 11 will be seeing you at the rallies and shows soon.

Until Next Time, Keep Dry, Warm, and Safe... and don't let your ol' lady tell you that you can't park you bike in the living room. If she gives you any trouble tell her Sparky said it was ok.

Peace,

Mark "Sparky" Capps

I am sure you all have lives out there, so did not spend your Christmas Eve morning snuggled on the couch, waiting for results on our nation’s soon-to-be Health Care Reform Bill; like the big nerd that I am, I did.  The Senate passed their version of this bill in a strictly party line vote of 60-39.  Strictly party line?  All 58 Democrats and 2 Ind. voted to pass, leaving 39 of the 40 Republicans to veto this $871 BILLION health care bill (the lone Senator out of Kentucky who is term-limited decided not to vote); they (both House and Senate) are to reconvene in January to try to come to a consensus on finalizing this bill, and creating a version that will appease both Houses. Normally, I would not bother you with non-motorcycle issues, but when the politicians start using verbiage such as risky behavior and lifestyles…personally, I believe that is the exact language that sparked the fundamental principle that is now Freedom Of Road Rider (please, correct me if I am wrong).  Again, Larry, my apologies for “intruding” on you today; the very best of wishes for a safe and joyous holiday.

Hate to bombard you with yet another e-mail but…Just found out some updates as far as Senate and House races goes for 2010…

House District 62 (Branson area):

Democratic candidate James Rynard was disqualified by the Missouri Ethics Commission to run for House Representative (article found: News-Leader.com, today’s edition) leaving R-Nita Jane Ayres and Libertarian Patty Tweedle to battle it out.  As far as I know, Miss Ayres is still not opposed for our right for freedom, but also, still has yet made a commitment one way or the other.  Best time to get her on our side is when she is still a candidate, and that would be up to our FORR members out in the Branson area to convince her of this.  I do not know much about her opponent, so any info/heads up would be most appreciative.  I believe election date on this is scheduled for Feb 2nd, 2010.

House District 56 (Lee’s Summit area):

This will be to replace the sudden resignation of Brian Yates, and scheduled for April 6th, 2010.  Candidates are Republican Mike Cierpoit and Democratic Dave Coffman.

Senate seat for District 8 currently held by Sen. Matt Bartle (R) will be open in the Nov 2010 elections.  As mentioned in earlier e-mails and somewhat hinted above, Rep. Yates was “supposed” to be running in this election, along with Pratt and Dusenberg.  In a recent article in the Blue Springs Journal, Rep. Will Kraus- District 48 has announced his candidacy for Senate seat for District 8.  The only other candidate who had announced his bid for Bartle’s seat is Rep. Bryan Pratt- District 55…anyone heard from Dusenberg about his position?  When I do, I’ll let you know.

As always, I welcome the comments/suggestions/thoughts/ideas…and more importantly, thanks for reading!

Sincerely,

Wanted to leave you with one more bit of legislative news…HB1332 has been filed by Rep. Jeff Roorda out of St. Louis area (Dist. 102; St. Charles/St. Louis Co?? His zip code is 63012…); this is a motorcycle stunt riding bill.  However, when you go onto his webpage, the summary reads, “…creates the crime of motorcycle stunt driving…”.  The way the bill reads, we will not be fighting against nor supporting this bill (there is nothing tricky in the bill, pretty clear as to what they consider “stunt riding”, etc.  Please feel free to read for yourself at the House website…http://www.house.mo.gov/billtracking/bills101/biltxt/intro/HB1332I.htm).  We will be keeping a close eye on how this bill does, how it’s received, the language, if anything gets attached…you know, the usual.

Legislative News dated December 23, 2009

Just want to take this opportunity to send best wishes for a happy and stress-free holiday to all my brothers and sisters from other misters and misses.  The PAC Committee has decided to extend to you, my fellow FORR comrade, Capitol Crusader “Week”, starting in February!  What does this mean to you, how will this work, and why do you have “ “ around the word week?  (Good questions, glad you asked…let me take the last one first…) Our Legislators have a work “week” that doesn’t necessarily start on a Monday nor end on a Friday, so the best times to catch them in their offices are Tues thru Thurs.  So, starting the first Tuesday in February (February 2nd, 2010) I will be up at the Capitol for afternoon session, which normally starts at 1pm; Wednesday (Feb 3rd), I will be there all day.  Thursday Feb 4th, Layne Shady from L8 will be FORR’s ambassador at the Capitol.  What does this mean to you?  With FORR members up at the Capitol for our Legislators’ full work week this gives YOU not one but three chances out each month to show your support for YOUR organization and to fight for YOUR freedom.  This pattern will follow for March, April, and May (the first Tues-Thurs of each month).  I, also, anticipate our Legislators recognizing our “constant” leathered presence at the Capitol, following this schedule, which is a good thing, cuz the last thing we at FORR would want to do is to give “them” a false impression that we have given up in ANY way shape or form.    Thanks for reading, Happy Holidays, and (hopefully) see you Wed Jan 6th, 11-11:30am at the Capitol.

My apologies for re-sending information to you, in regards to HB1217.  A wonderful woman/friend/fellow member graciously pointed out my mistake of not including the co-sponsors of this bill, which was a huge mistake (and an honest oversight) on my part.  We all appreciate a well deserved pat on the back for a good job done, so please include Rep.’s: Day (David.Day@house.mo.gov; 573-751-1446), Allen (Sue.Allen@house.mo.gov; 573-751-9765), Burlison (Eric.Burlison@house.mo.gov; 573-751-0136), McGhee (Mike.McGhee@house.mo.gov; 573-751-1462), Nieves (Brian.Nieves@house.mo.gov; 573-751-0549), Parkinson (Mark.Parkinson@house.mo.gov; 573-751-2949), Smith-150 (Jason. I contacted Rep. Gary Dusenberg’s office back in November to request his team pre-file FORR’s “helmet bill”.  Not only did his office respond the very next day, they also, recapped their support for FORR in our fight for freedom.  HB1217 is our new House Bill # for the helmet bill in this upcoming session at the Capitol.  Please send Rep. Dusenberg a note of thanks and gratitude for his support to FORR.  This man deserves our respect, as he has always shown FORR the upmost respect in turn.

A hearty congratulations is due to a good friend of FORR’s, Sen. Kurt Schaefer-District 19.  He has just been made Vice-Chairman of Appropriations ($$money$$) within the Standing Senate Committees.  This is a great move for his career; try to drop him a line/call, wishing him good luck (kurt.schaefer@senate.mo.gov; 573-751-3931) or when you see him (perhaps during opening session Jan. 6th..hint-hint) wish him well.  Interested, there is a nice article (www.columbiamissourian.com; article was dated 12-02-2009)

The 95th General Assembly at the Capitol convenes Wednesday, January 6th, 2010 at 12pm.  As this date is before our Jan. Jan 6th at 11-ish to meet and greet with our Senators and Representatives; we will set up our "official" Capitol Crusader Days during our Jan. Local 11 News Submission for December 2009

Seasons Greetings from Southwest Missouri,

Local 11 wishes everyone out there, a Very Merry Christmas and A Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Now for Local news.  The son of Doc and Brandy, Nephew of Mark and Kaime, and Grand-baby to JJ...Brayden... won third place in the Maple leaf baby contest. Congrats to him. Speaking of the Maple leaf, this year we did not ride in the parade, instead we took a year off and as luck has it we have 2 members living side by side right on the parade route. So, the local gathered at their homes.  I made breakfast for the Local and we enjoyed the parade from the front yard with plenty of coffee and made a day of it.  Thanks Dale and Tim for the use of your yard.

On the holiday spirit side of things, Local 11 made a donation to the Salvation Army of Carthage donating turkeys to help those in need. We support our local Salvation Army, getting out and supporting the community, in which we live.  It's great for the local and the people that support us.

Local 11 has accumulated all sorts of items used in our events, So the local purchased a storage unit to keep the property of the local together in one area. this makes it easier to keep track of the local's belongings and easier access when preparing for an event.  It's also easier wrap up and store item after an event is done.  This should make things much easier to handle knowing where it is going. Thanks Local 11 for making this purchase.

Election results will be posted in the January issue of the Freedom Press and on this website.  We need to welcome the new officers and I foresee the Local continuing to grow.  This local has been growing and as of now we have 84 members.  Good Job to the members who do our recruiting.  A special thanks goes to Squirrel who has brought in several new members.  Keep up the good work.

I hope the local will keep in mind that, the rally we have put on in the summer takes some planning, which means its time to start thinking about the rally for next summer.  Bring any ideas to the meetings.  It is time to get started on the rally for 2010.  This is going to be a great summer, the more we get done and planned out now, the less stress it will be come crunch time.

Well I hope to see all the members at our new meeting place, at the Carthage VFW on the 4Th Sunday of the month at 3:00pm.  If you don't know how to get there, go to the "Contact Us" page of this website for directions.

So, Ride safe, if you are riding this winter.  If not, change that oil, slap on a new tire, and get ready for the summer of 2010.

Til Next Time, Stay warm, Keep it upright, and keep your brothers in mind.

Hello everyone from Southwest Missouri.

There’s not too much going on in this area.  Our meeting location is being changed to the VFW on Oak Street right outside of Carthage.  It seems we have outgrown our current location.  The meeting times are also being changed to the 4Th Sunday of every month at 3:00 pm.  So, our next meeting will be on the 25th of October.  Hope to see you all there.

Other news is one of our members is a Grandfather once again,  This time a baby girl ... please welcome Amethyst ... She is the granddaughter of Terry Dunham.. Congrats Terry.

Local 11 attended the poker run put on by Local 27.  It was a good turnout and a great day for riding.  All went well, with the exception of the drive belt breaking on my sporty.  Had to trailer it the rest of the way and all the way back down here.  Thanks Local 27 for your help with that (it would of been a long way to push that thing).  It was a great time.  We enjoyed hanging out with them.  You missed out if you missed that ride.

Not too much else going on right at the moment.

Hey there Southwest Mo, and all our Brothers and Sisters.

I know it has been a bit since I have made this deadline for the newsletter, but let me go over some of the things that have been going on. Local 11 is NOT doing a bike show this year... Instead we have much bigger plans in mind. We are going to have our FIRST Duncan Campbell Memorial Motorcycle Rally. Three whole days of putting up with us is what you get. We have Bands lined up already, For Friday night we will be featuring BLACK* JACKS. A local threesome with a great sound, and Saturday Night, our senses will be entertained by none other than EBB & FLOW, they are known around this area. So these are two great bands that is a MUST SEE!!! Sunday will be our breakdown and kickback day, but the gates will be open on Thursday night for vendor set-up and those early campers. Watch for Flyers coming to your local soon.

We recently were blessed with a visit from Jim "Mad-dog" Poe of local 27; he sat in at the meeting and chatted with us, talking about Local 11 and local 27, working together since we are the only 2 locals in our district. We thank him for coming and inviting us to participate with them, which helps both locals grow, and makes our district stronger.

Today, we returned the favor that local 27 presented us with, 6 members of Local 11 members who didn't "Bing" out and rode to Roscoe in 41 degree weather. We sat in on their meeting, offering information as needed, and formed the brotherhood bond with our sister local. Talk of doing a district event was briefly discussed, they invited us to some of the events in that area and we extended our invitation to them as well. I have high hopes of lasting friendship and brotherhood with this local, a few other local have met Local 11, Local 18 of Springfield, St. Joe Local 6, and Kansas City's Local 5... All have had the pleasure of meeting us. We hope to spread ourselves and make Local 11 known all over the state. Come spend a little time with Local 11 and we will guarantee you will not forget us.

So that’s a few things going on, If you want to Meet Local 11, come check out our meetings, or send us a flyer of your event.

From our State Chairman Posted on April 3, 2009

On April 25, 2009 Freedom of Road Riders®, Inc and ABATE for Missouri will be hosting what we hope will be the most significant gathering of motorcyclists in the State of Missouri.

We will meet in different areas throughout Missouri, with the purpose of riding to Jefferson City.

There are four staging areas listed on the flyer. Please be sure to be at one of them by 1:30 PM so that we can all meet at the Capitol Building by 2:30 PM

After reaching the Capital we will have a short ceremony followed by a parade.

Please follow this link to get a copy of the flyer - BUFR RUN flyer

There is a place on the flyer to write in an area gathering spot so you can ride to one of the four staging areas as a group.

Please post this flyer wherever you can and get this thing moving as we have very little time to pull this off. Invite every motorcyclist/biker you know.

If for some reason you cannot download the flyer e-mail me and I will send it to you.

One very important point is that this is NOT A PROTEST RIDE.

It is a PUBLIC STATEMENT ON THE UNIFICATION of BIKERS.

In order to show the Politicians and the general public that we as bikers are uniting to protect our rights, I encourage you to attend the Bikers United for Rights Run (BUFR Run)

So don’t just sit there get moving.

With great hopes,

Howdy all, from Southwest Mo.

Spring is just a fling away. I hope you got them bikes all tuned up, new tires for the road, and that leather worked over good, or you could be like me, just ride the damn thing. I polish mine maybe twice a year. My bike is a rider, and that's what I intend to do with it.  It may have some dirt on it from a rally that I attended last year, but I am ok with that.  The rain will get it.

Well anyway, this isn't about my riding habits... this is about a new year that has got to bring about some interesting results. Only time will tell. Leather and Lace. Local 18, you can expect Local 11 at that event. We would not miss that for anything. It has become a tradition for the local to enjoy ourselves. Its nice to attend an event that you are not working. Local 11 makes a full weekend of it complete with motel and breakfast on Sunday morning. So if anyone has not made it to Leather and Lace, you are really missing out on a good time. (I won Best Dressed Guy last year). It is a Valentine's Dance with a silent auction, good food and great bands. Bring your own fun. If you don't have the fun to spare, Local 11 will gladly share some of ours. We always have a great time.

Well the progress for our Annual bike show is underway, the date we have for that is May 16th. Keep an eye out for flyers. More details later.  I was thinking about last year a little. We got some of us together and did some riding to other locals events. We went to St. Joe local 6 bike show (438 miles round trip). It was an awesome ride to show our support. Kansas City, Local 5 bike show I believe, was another great day, plus several other events around the area. We support our BACA brothers, and often help them out wherever we are needed. Then there are events that we never miss. Choppers 4 Children, Cowskins (fall and spring), Hawgs 4 Dogs, these are a couple.

I would like to gather up a posse and attend as many of our Brother's Local events, most are held on weekends. So it is a possible feat to accomplish. Like to make Homecoming, let the Organization know Local 11 does exist, and we are a strong local. Our local is made up of my brothers and sisters who are my best friends and family. We support and ride together. And the people in this area know who we are. Now, we need to let everyone else know who we are. Let’s ride the state and make ourselves known. Show support where it is needed. If anyone is interested in a ride or two, not saying you have to go to every event, lets talk about where we wanna go, when we are going and lets rack up some miles.

Til next time, ride ‘em hard, and keep them tanks full,

Local 11 News Posted on December 5, 2008

Hi ya’ll from Southwest Missouri

Well its wintertime… but a new year is upon us. And with a new year we have new officers in place.

Here are the Local 11 election results:

Chairman - Rick Johnson
Vice Chairman - Les Sanders
Treasurer - Larry Hale
CC Rep and Newsletter - Mark Capps
Secretary and Membership - Kaime Johnson
Sgt. at Arms - Cliff Conway
Product Line and Historian - Janese Johnson
Legislative - Don Maki
Safety - Robert James
Events - Bob Owens

Thanks to the outgoing officers for the work you have put into the local. Welcome to the new officers and good luck.  2009 looks to be a promising year for local 11. There’s a warmer bike show date for starters, and we got some excellent officers in place. Some have a new mission in mind.  There is more to be expected of some offices and we have members who were once active, went inactive, and are now stepping up. I’m excited about that.

Local 18 “Leather and Lace” is coming up February 14th, and as always local 11 will be there, exciting and fun times that is. We’re looking forward to a new year for local 11.

Hope to see ya'll around. Until then, ride warm, wear some leathers and hope for some sunshine.
